In hindsight strategic optimism based on some tactical victories indicated poor assessment of ten actual situation and bad judgment on the part of Gen. William Westmoreland, Ambassador Ellsworth Bunker, and Robert W. Komer, the head of the Civil Operations and Revolutionary Development Support program SP5 Mark Kuzinski.
It is important to have advisors who are honest and wise and certainly yes men and women should be avoided as advisors to any POTUS.

As it turned out, the '68 Tet offensive was a disastrous loss on the ground for the NVA and was the end of effective action by the V.C., which was a broken force. Had we kept up our courage at that point the war would have had a very different end.
