The problem is we cant even agree on what facts are these days. "Fake news" is thrown at anything that doesn't align with an individual's personal beliefs and if you come back with statistics they say you cant trust the source. It used to be republicans were republicans who wanted government out individuals lives and democrats were democrats who wanted to help those who were less fortunate get a leg up. Now it seems Republicans are so far right of where they used to be and democrats are so far to the left because both parties bases are so much poorer informed and hold more extreme opinions while refusing to listen to others because of it. Social media just compounds this issue because before if you had a shitty opinion you wanted someone to hear you had to go out and find someone willing to listen to it and hope it didn't get you punched, now you can spread it to hundreds of people all while taking a dump.
