They told me Friday that starting in February you will have to go register on their site then down load an app to get the military discount and if you don't have a smart phone then you are out of luck. So I told them I guess I am going to Lowes which is liberally half a mile down the road.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - I think this policy at Home Depot is going to cost them customers in the long run. I rarely went to Home Depot anyways because the local store refused to give discounts to Veterans. I needed something that Lowes didn't carry and to my surprise they had started giving discounts but I guess no more since I don't have a smart phone. Lt Col Charlie Brown

I’ve never had that problem at Home Depot, but I live in San Antonio (Military City) and I guess they don’t want bad press locally here. Still, I’ve heard similar account to what you’ve said and it’s mostly a local thing vs what the HQ has come out and said. If they offer a HD card which is tied to your military status like what Lowes does (and they too require the card vs a military ID/dd214/Veterans card), that takes the power of a local HD from honoring the discount. For Lowes you can have the physical card (not a CC), the smartphone app, or give them you phone #. I highly doubt HD would be too dumb not to do the same (which virtually all businesses do which have some membership deal).

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - True but I don't have to buy a smart phone for Lowes, I just tell them I am a Vet they ask me for my phone number they take 10% off and I don't think Lowes has put a cap on theirs yet.

Never had a problem with H.D. in the past, just showed them my ID card and they would take off 10%, like I said, in 2021 I saved almost $2200 using H.D. and the military discount but seems like they are trying to make it harder to use plus if I read their site correct they cap it at $400 per calendar year. And you have to have the app, well I don't own a smart phone, never had a need for one, don't intend on buying one just to get a discount that is limited to $400.

Lt Col Charlie Brown Simple solution, go to Lowes! No caps but no discounts on sale items any longer.

At 1st thought the change would be an improvement. Never liked asking. But there are so many levels to navigate to get to the QR code, it is frustrating. Doubt it will change my buying. Some stuff we like from HD some stuff from Lowes and for really cool stuff there's Ace and Tractor Supply.

Cpl Vic Burk No, but to this old East Texas peanut farmer, it just has a homey feel.

CWO4 Terrence Clark - I like TSC. I love the smell of the feed they stock as strange as that may sound.
