I googled it and found it being reported on numerous news outlets. And the headline is a bit misleading.......what he signed removes the "mandatory" language, leaving the penalty level to the discretion of the judge. It doesn't mean that criminals using a gun in the commission of a crime won't face punishment (as the headline seems to suggest). It means the sentence will be determined based on all of the facts of a specific case, and any extenuating circumstances, rather than on a predetermined penalty level that applies to all, regardless of circumstances.

So now in California, you can be a minor engaged in prostitution, purposely infecting unsuspecting clients with HIV, shoot someone, and face no sanctions other than to be placed in Child Services as long as you don't misgender someone in the process!

You make it sound like nobody in California goes to jail......our state prisons, of which there are two in my area, are not short of people doing time. Quite the contrary....over crowding is a problem.

CPT (Anonymous) - WTF put away you ANTIFA hatred of the Police. You will not LOWER the crime rate by softer sentences.....you just screw the statistics. The recidivism rate in the US is about 60%. You put them away and the Poice and Society do not have to deal with them. So pony up to the bar and PROVE mandatory sentencing does not work don't spout BLM/ANTIFA hate speech
BTW I am STILL a Cop

So what? The entire state of California is a gun free zone, what with all their gun control laws, right?
Therefore no guns can possibly be used in the commission of crimes in California, so the law is redundant.
Duh! Get with the program, dude!

Gerrymandering is older than Jerry Brown! Gerrymandering exemplifies politicians at work!

Gov Brown is a waist of space! And yes he keeps bankrupting our State! They need to ship him the hell on and soon! I can’t stand that man! I think he used illegal immigrants to pass election votes using dead peoples information! There was a huge investigation about it at one point but then the investigation disappeared shortly after starting! Hhmmmm
