When we give other nations our toys, we also give them the ability to find their weaknesses.
Ukraine is not our ally. They are the enemy of our enemy. For the time being, our interests are aligned. But they are not our ally.
Let us not forget that Zelenskyy is an autocratic thug that we were investigating before Russia invaded.
Giving Ukraine Abrams tanks is a bad move. I know we are looking at transitioning and moving beyond the Abrams. But we are not there yet.

The M1A1 has ZERO survivability on current gen battlefield if the Russians even deploy their last two gen tanks. The heat signature alone on the M1A1 is like lighting up a hundred Christmas trees in the desert at midnight!

Don't forget it doesn't use the same fuel and the turbine engine sucks fuel like a fraternity sucking down beer. Ukraine has managed to get it's experienced Army shot to hell, so inexperienced operators fighting a high tech tank without Air Superiority or Artillery Cover. Why don't they just paint big bullseyes on them.

Doesn't the M1A1 take JP8 or something? And can only run for 8 hours before need to refuel? YUGE heat signature makes 'em easy pickin's? WTH, steel coffins with tracks.

MAJ Montgomery Granger - Correct, they run on jet fuel, have a high heat signature and a short range. The Turbine engine should have been replaced with a diesel as soon as those shortcomings were obvious after Desert Storm. The platform has a lot going for it, it's just been saddled with a loser of an engine.
