The fact that I'm reading this an hour before the C-130 even arrives is incredible. I wish those sailors and PJ's the best. Must be scary to be out in the middle of the Atlantic when something like this happens only to find your utterly alone with the nearest help nearly 12 hours away.

It sucks when something happens. Merchant ships never have doctors on board (international regs state that any ship with more than 40 people must, but nearly none of them have crews that large), but most companies have a doctor on call, and most ships have full pharmacies that they can access after the doc prescribes. At least those three survivors are morphine-d up, you can be sure. I had my wisdom teeth impact 3 days out of port, and that's not something they'll come get you for. Pretty miserable 3 days.
