What a tragic waste. 181K on their side and another just shy of 28k for the allies. To what gain? I am always shocked by the stories that the Tet Offensive took us off guard. Did we become complacent or forget war is not a game? Good read this morning Mark.

I think it was more of a case of out of touch senior officers and political officials who had no idea how to truly fight an enemy like the Viet Cong and vastly underestimated their ability to mass troops and fight more conventional fights along with their common tactics.

I was in-country 50 years ago today. We were waiting for two things; Nixon's "secret plan" to end to war, and if Charlie was going to do the Tet thing again. For the latter, this time we were ready for him.
