Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that January 3 is the anniversary of birth of American politician in South Carolina Alonzo J. Ransier who was South Carolina's first black Lieutenant Governor and later was a Republican United States Congressman from 1873 until 1875.

Author, lecturer, and historian Damon L. Fordham speaks on Alonzo J. Ransier (1834-1882) who served as South Carolina's first black Lt. Governor during the Reconstruction era. This story is also told in Mr. Fordham's book "Voices of Black South Carolina-Legend and Legacy".
