old sys are difficult and very expensive to rebuild. back flow prevention device placed on the pipe before it exits the home will stop the basement flooding

I put one in my house in 93, neighbors a little back up during spring runoff, we had none

Absolutely a horrible situation to have exist in the United States. How was this allowed to happens? A quick Google search shows the spotlighted cities to be - wait for it - Democrat leadership mismanagement.

What else is new? I don't know the specifics of this location. I know they have backpressure valves that can be installed in home sanitary sewer line to prevent the back pressure from doing damage like this. It can be pricey to do this but if needed worth it's weight in gold. The question is how much pressure can they handle and how badly has the sewer authority been managed?
