APOD: 2025 January 7 – A New Years Aurora and SAR Arc

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for January 7, 2025.
We travel to Pieve di Cardore today, a comume (e.g. Italian municipality) nestled in the Dolomites 68 miles north of Venice and birthplace of the artist Titian. The New Years Aurora appeared over the town on January 1st.
To the left is the typical vertical display, while to the right is a suspected stable aurora red (SAR) arc. The vertical display is a result of individual particle actions in the atmosphere, while the SAR arc is created when interaction with the solar wind creates a river-like flow of plasma (charged particles). True celestial fireworks.

Which is charge in motion which IS the definition of electrical current. There is a tremendous amount of electrical current flow coupling the earth to the sun....We form a circuit....obviously.....my first question is one of coupling and my second is one of grounding....they are related for sure....I want to plug into that....
