This is the first time I’ve heard of this type of grenade, the ones we had were the baseball type, had to be careful throwing them in the Central Highlands, because of the trees and bamboo they could bounce back and explode in your area, Welcome Home Brothers.

Don’t remember those. We had round ones that were called baseballs. The theory was that we grew up throwing baseballs and could throw them easily. Plus they would roll giving the thrower more distance. The other ones were called lemons because of their lemon shape. Never had any pineapple ones.

SGT James Murphy
We all wondered in basic if anyone ever had to kick a dropped gernade in to one of those detonation slots around the pitching range... well we didn't have to wait long. Some num-nuts actually did panic and after he pulled the pin and tried to throw it he rolled it off the back of his hand outside the pit area! The guy was right next to me BTW. The DI jumped for the gernade and tossed it in the pit. It went off about a second later! Shit that was close!

Sgt Roncari. That’s what happened to a friend of mine. One bounced back and wounded him. Now a NVA soldier tried to finish him off with a bayonet. My friend was very strong. He missed and he finished him off hand to hand.
