APOD: 2024 October 7 – The Long Tails of Comet Tsuchinshan ATLAS

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the October 7th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). This photo of Comet A3/2023 Tsuchinshan ATLAS was taken early in the morning of October 2nd outside of Junin, Peru, along the hiking trail locals call the Ruta de las Lagunas or Huaytapallana Trek. As you can see, the comet is clearly visible with the unaided eye. The photographer used a Sony A7II with a Samyang 135mm lens, f2-ISO3200, and 25 second exposure time.
