Helene Weakens to Tropical Storm as It Sweeps Across Georgia

Over 2 million customers across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are without power, according to PowerOutage.us.
The center of Hurricane Helene has crossed over from Florida into Georgia, while a tornado has claimed two lives in Wheeler County in the center of the state.
The Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, has written on X: “Marty, the girls, and I are saddened to learn of the loss of two lives in Wheeler County this evening. As we join their families in mourning their deaths, we urge all Georgians to brace for further impact from Helene, remain vigilant, and pray for all those affected.”
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center reports Hurricane Helene has crossed into Georgia, and at 2:00 a.m. ET. was 30 miles north of Valdosta, Ga.

MSgt Dale Johnson - Will do Brother Dale. As much as I hate it when they cancel school I am thankful for it today for the safety of our students and staff. I just wish I had brought home my laptop from school yesterday.

We had one death that I know of. A huge road sign fell on a vehicle driving on I-4. That's a new one for me and another reason to not be out driving during a hurricane.

And is in Ky now dropping tons of rain can anybody tell me why it turned left????????? Maybe because we have a left leaning President who can control the weather and doesn't like people from KY??? Or maybe because a former right leaning Pres. who hates Mitch also hates us Kentuckians???????????

Despite what you may hear, nobody yet has "weather control". If the Russians had this capability, they would certainly have used it by now. Given the close presidential election, I don't think anyone is expressing any animus towards Kentucky. I used to live in Madisonville, and still remember Kentucky very fondly.

First thank you for your comment and I must say that one Harvard word I had to look up as I only attended North Texas University and failed English 2 times and took me 6 times to get 4 semesters. of English and failed every foreign language class i took which went far in getting me drafted in 1969 1 hour short of being a senior. You or no one else on here gets my humor nor does members of my church nor members of my family nor members of my community so don't please don't feel bad. I really believe it or not do not believe anyone can completely control the weather but this style of humor continully gets me in trouble on here and i have even ask to be removed and they seem to injoy seeing me get in trouble and so i am still here making silly comments. I apricate and i really mean it you explaining to others who do not understand my humor what is true. I live not far from Madisonville KY in Mayfield KY home of the DEC 10 tornado.. We call it Methville because of the drug problem here and I really do thank you and mean it for your comment you have a great day please drive thru and thanks for going Greyhound.
