The United States scrambled fighter jets after Russian military aircraft were detected near Alaska. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said Wednesday that it detected, tracked, and intercepted two Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). NORAD said U.S. fighter jets had conducted the intercept.

I believe the Air Force has closed the minimally manned Alert Bases in Alaska like King Salmon AFS, but for exactly this reason I think it was a mistake to close them. Response time is higher when the fighters are stationed inland.

Not having the Armed Alert Force Fighters to respond I also feel is a huge mistake and effect the security of each and every one of us. That should NEVER have been done !
