MY SAY: Keep Gitmo open. It is the finest military detention facility on earth. Just under 800 unlawful combatant Islamists who want to kill us have been held there, and over 745 have been RELEASED, and NONE have been beheaded, executed, blown up, hacked to death, dragged naked and lifeless through the streets, drowned or burned alive. All things our enemies have done to us and/or our allies. There is no moral comparison between Gitmo and how our enemies treat their captives. Detainees are given FREE Qurans, prayer rugs/beads, white robes, halal and special Muslim holy meals, services of US military Muslim chaplains, directions to Mecca, world class health, dental and vision care, library, video games, movies, books, recreation, sports, correspondence access to legal representation and more. Only a handful of detainees were waterboarded in order to obtain valuable information that saved many lives. At the time, waterboarding and other Enhanced Interrogation Techniques were legal, approved, and did not meet the internationally accepted definition of torture. The only institutional abuse at Gitmo is that perpetrated by the detainees upon the guards by "splashing" their bodily fluids on them, sucker punching them and threatening them and their families. US military personnel who serve at Gitmo serve honorably and within the Geneva Conventions and Law of War. The Global War on Terror is ongoing, and Gitmo is the best, safest, most secure place for unlawful combatant Islamists who want to kill us. Those who call for their release are at best Islamist apologists and at worst no better than the terrorists themselves. Sincerely, Montgomery J.
