Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the August 15th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). The recent geomagnetic storm and resulting auroral display backlight this August 12th image from Vallentuna, Sweden. Vallentuna is located on Sweden's east coast near Stockholm. Mars and Jupiter are just above the treeline; the Pleiades and a Perseid meteor are a little higher at two o'clock. Cheers.

Great photo! Stars remind me of Montana when I was much younger! I told my sons one time that they had never seen the sky and we planned an overnight camp-out in Big Bend Park. At about Ten the first night of the camp-out, my oldest boy inquired "Dad, where are all the stars you brag about seeing when you were our age?" Unfortunately, I did not do my due diligence in planning the trip... We had a FULL MOON that completely overwhelmed the star gazing!
