Starting in September, if someone in Clemmons, North Carolina, calls 911 to report a cardiac arrest, the first responder on the scene may be a drone carrying an automated external defibrillator, or AED.
“The idea is for the drone to get there several minutes before first responders,” such as an emergency medical technician or an ambulance, said Daniel Crews, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office in Forsyth County, where Clemmons is located. The sheriff’s office is partnering on the project with local emergency services, the Clinical Research Institute at Duke University, and the drone consulting firm Hovecon. “The ultimate goal is to save lives and improve life expectancy for someone experiencing a cardiac episode,” Mr. Crews said.

It amazed me when I was in Warner Robins, I couldn’t get approval for an AED at our church. The congregation was made up of most folks >50 years of age.
When I moved to Dawsonville, GA, our congregation was much like WR. I had no problem getting the church to purchase an AED. We have a fire station with an ambulance crew about 5 minutes away, but if that ambulance is out, the next one is about 15-20 minutes away.
I do find it interesting that the county just south of us is getting ready with drone delivery of AED’s.
Still the safest place go have a heart attack is the airport: there are AWD’s everywhere and a 12 y/o Boy Scout can save you, LOL.

Out of all the codes I have ran, I can count on one hand the number of times I have defibrillated someone. The companies that sell AEDs have done a great job at marketing but until recently, not $$$ well spent. Now they are starting come in under $2k (https://aed123.com/collections/all ) it is very reasonable. A better use of $$$ instead of drones delivering AEDs, how about insurance companies provide AEDs to patients with conditions likely to go into pulsesless Vtach or Vfib. Even better would be new technology that can shock Vtach and synchronize with the R waves. SVT over a prescribed route.
