The A-10 and F-35 competed in close air support tests years ago. The report just surfaced.

Forget the "Large amounts of redacted data" having seen videos of live fire by A-10s I don't see any way that an F-35 could outperform an A-10 except in the amount of time to get to a target. I will give up the point to the F-35 in that they are a faster aircraft, but when considering target destruction, no way. A-10s carry a larger munitions payload and are exceptionally effective at putting them where they need to be.

For close in air support, I prefer the A-10 with far more & better air to ground firepower and tank busting 30MM Gatling! 1350 rounds is far better than the F-35's 180 +/- for the ground air support it was created for... That said, I am sure the F-35 has its own areas of superiority for other support missions... Just my view...
