The 5 years I worked for the equipment rental company everything we did was based on the Hobbs meter. Oil changes were at 100 Hour intervals, in a car that would equate to roughly 5000 miles which is the recommended change interval from most manufacturers. In order to set the intervals they're going to have to run some to failure just to see what part lasted how long, also something we did in the industrial settings I've been in. I like that the ARMY PMCS program is taking a more realistic view of real world events.
