Almost as bad as bailing out of an operational aircraft. I know there are extenuating circumstances but that pilot should have attempted to cause that bird to go down in a safe area, throttle back, point it to water or forest, not let it go however long it wanted to. That could have been very bad if it hit a heavily populated area.
