The disturbing part is with Putin it appears the threat from Russia is again rising and if anything the military readiness needs to be increase not ignored and put on a back burner. . Lets not forget about the threat rising now also from Communist Mainland China. This has been a pretty steady problem with both Russia and China and it's NOT getting better. History does repeat itself when people fail to remember past wars, conflicts and threats. The best way to avoid war is to keep a strong operational Military that can respond if that is needed. A weakness will be exploited as it always has been.

Is Russia sitting on 20% of a country that was a part of the Russian Empire even before the Soviets, the part the has a Russian ethnic population, really a threat to Europe? Germany was one of Russia's largest trading partners and I didn't see a Russian threat to any of the rest of Europe.
Are the Russians making a grab for resources in Africa? Certainly, along with the French (their main competitor) and the Chinese and the US.
Remember that we almost started a nuclear war when the Soviets put missiles into Cuba. You don't even get your feet wet going for Ukraine to Russia.

Sadly it's the former Hawks that seem hell bent on cutting back our military.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen I don't have a problem with cutting back if the cut back the missions also. Our 30 year run as World cop isn't going well and maybe we should take care of our own border and problems instead of telling others how to behave.

A limited nuclear war will cool the world for 20 years so the hell with the climate change emergency! This is a free article once you register.

Regional nuclear war could trigger global cooling and famine
Even a limited nuclear conflict could spark "unprecedented climate change," U.S. government scientists warn.

Big mistake...we won't solve the "climate crisis" this way (If there is such a thing to be solved)
However, we will be overrun by people who don't believe in our way of life and that is a much bigger threat that we are ignoring.

Exactly!
Really don't care about the cause of the "climate crisis" its the refusing to do anything about the effects of it that bothers me. If you are at an airfield subject to attacks and runway damage you bring in and stockpile equipment and materials to rapidly repair that damage, not argue about where the missiles came from.
