Sadly based on my extensive clinical research on this tragic issue, the prognosis for reducing suicide remains grim.

It's a tough situation as there are no 'right' answers as everyone is different. A conversation with one veteran may not work with another. Life after service is hard as there is little structure, so it's easy to stray into thoughts of self harm when things are tough. And it's easy to let those thoughts hang around until it's too late.

I agree, Sir. But why can't we do better? Why can't we invite those who would be homeless or otherwise destitute into veteran villages, with different levels of services and assistance, with the goal of individual autonomy? Out of the military shouldn't mean out of luck.

MAJ Montgomery Granger I think it's because we are all individuals and we can't force anyone to take care of themselves, nor can we do it for them.
The individual has to want help and most suffer in silence. I believe that's the sticking point, we all suffer in silence as we don't want to be a bother to others.
