SCOTUS isn't touching this with a 10 foot pole.
I make no attempt to hide my disdain for Trump. I'm a never-Trumper and have been since 2015. But I also try to maintain objectivity.
This right here is why I said he never should have run for 2024. Regardless of the validity (or lack thereof) of the indictments (which I have my own personal opinions on), this turns not just Trump, but our election and, by extension, all of America, into a sideshow. Trump wants to make America Great Again but every single gle thing he does publicly is an embarrassment.
We are supposed to be the shining beacon on the hill. How many nations are looking to America right now and saying "now that right there.... THAT is how you run an election. THAT is how you run a campaign."? Yes, I know there are plenty of arguments for weaponization of the DoJ and the AGs and that Trump is the victim. And I can't entirely dismiss those arguments. BUT....
Trump knew this was going to be the outcome of running. He PREDICTED this outcome. And he ran anyway. Even if he is not the guy orchestrating the legal attacks, he is certainly egging them on. He is REVELING in his persecution. He is a ready, willing, and active participant in the circus that is going on. He is willingly and intentionally embarrassing our nation and de-legitimizing our democracy (yes, I know we are a Republic - but we have DEMOCRATIC elections) in front of the world.
He should have never run for 2024. He should have thrown his weight behind another candidate and stayed out of the limelight. If, as he says, these indictments *are* just to prevent his election, this would be better for the country AND him. If, as he says, these indictments are a ploy to deflect attention from Biden scandals, then staying out of the election would be better for America AND Republicans, as there would not be Trump to shift focus to.
But he can't do it. He simply can't. He is an egotistical, narcissistic, POS who doesn't give a damn about what is actually best for this country.

I, and this is just my opinion, am glad he ran in 2016. I cannot imagine where this country would be right now had Clinton won. He'll, it's a nightmare with Biden in office. And he's a compromised office holder.

LTC Trent Klug That is, IMO, flawed logic, sir.
Yes, Trump beat Clinton in 2016. But there is no reason to assume a different Republican candidate could not have done the same.
Clinton lost that election just as much, if not more, than Trump won it. She had high unfavorables and multiple scandals. I honestly believe Trump ONLY won because his opponent was Hillary. Had Dems put forward a DECENT candidate, Trump would have lost 2016, too.
Of course, we will never know for sure. But if the only reason for retroactively supporting Trump 2016 is that he beat Clinton, I just can't get behind that.
Now, I will readily admit (here is that objectivity I *try* to maintain) that he turned out to be a better President than I expected/feared. He still had a near-fatal level of foot-in-mouth disease. But his actual policies and actions were not that bad.
My objection is not really all that much about PRESIDENT Trump. It is about CANDIDATE Trump.

SFC Casey O'Mally You can call it flawed logic. I dont care. What other republican candidate running in 2016 would have beaten Clinton? Quick and without looking them up.
Trump won the nomination over a pack of middling candidates. And yes, his performance in office was surprising. Imagine what it would have been without the fake Russia and Ukraine garbage.

LTC Trent Klug I was a big fan of Ben Carson. I do not know if he would have beaten Hillary - no one KNOWS, because it didn't happen. I think he probably would have for reasons mentioned above.
I can't remember the race all that well to remember if anyone else was a viable candidate - I am a registered independent, and pay less attention to primaries as I am not eligible to vote in them.
Plus I voted 3rd party, anyway.
