Wow.
Having seen the remnant of the defenses around Sasebo, Japan. I am glad we used the bomb to end the war. Those two bombs saved many Japanese lives from dying of starvation, which would have happened because of our invasion.

Exactly, and the fact that both cities are thriving today kind of dispels the gloom and doom associated with using those bombs.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen I was in Nagasaki for a day during our visit to Sasebo. You are exactly right. It's a thriving vibrant city. I enjoyed NY visit there!.

I really felt sorry for him.. The longe he worked the project the more certain he was that we would destroy ourselves but he didn't see any other option

Remember watching the interview, his story always interested me even before I became a bomber guy.

LTC (Join to see) Wait! Are you saying Senator McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Commission were correct?

LTC Trent Klug no, I don't think that Dr Oppenheimer was a communist sympathizer. He just didn't want the hydrogen bomb built. Even though the movie shows him with a communist American girlfriend and a communist American Wife, that doesn't mean that he was a communist. He did support the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War and he got in trouble because he sent money through the Communist party that was going to help the anti-franco forces.

LTC (Join to see) I don't think he was either. I was just being sarcastic as so many said McCarthy and the HUAC were lying about communists in the federal government and throughout society.
