Violating hunting regulations is a offense worthy of relief? What did he do, shoot a protected species of transgender prairie dogs?

Hmm. Probably not. When I was there in the 80's, there was a prairie dog town on both sides of the tank trail from the motor pools to the field. It was pretty much permanently covered with roadkill. Of course, we didn't have quite so many environmentalists around back then.

That seems a bizarre reason for relief from command. Has to be something else going on here...
maybe he used his weapon in an unsafe manner? Threatened someone?

He is suspended from command until the investigation is complete. According to the original article in Military.com, the investigation is regarding accusations of "repeated violations of hunting rules on base."

MAJ Ron Peery - Somehow I suspect this has something to do with his handling of personal weapons but often we don't want to say that...

Lt Col Charlie Brown - It could be something as simple as not having a current post hunting permit, not checking in with range control before hunting, or taking more than the limit. Just going to have to see how things turn out.
