Brand New, Never Sold, 1987 Buick GNX - Jay Leno’s Garage

Jay Leno test drives a 1987 Buick Grand National GNX. This car came with a V6 Turbo with an intercooler and puts out 276 horsepower though Car and Driver says it about 300..
It was never sold and the owner of Boulevard Buick in Signal Hill, California has had it on the showroom since it was ordered in 1987. The regular Grand National cost $17 grand back in 1987 but this particular model is about $30 grand.

Buick only made 547 of these and this one was never sold.

Buick was embarrassed back then that it could beat the Corvette from 0 to 60. (0-100km)

When I graduated from college in 1987, I wanted a Buick Grand National but I never got one. This Buick Grand National experimental is one awesome car. I do have something similar that puts out more horsepower. I have a 2015 Dodge Challenger SXT Plus which has a 305 horsepower 3.6 L V6 engine that is not turbocharged.

Technology has advanced so much that even a modern V6 of similar displacement can put out more horsepower than a turbocharged car from the 1980s. Instead of having a force be automatic like this car had, the modern cars have eight or nine speed automatic transmissions.

If you look at the sticker on this car, it shows 25 miles per gallon highway. My Dodge Challenger can do 30 miles per gallon on the highway. So those extra gears do make a difference!
