I know this is getting a bit geeky, but this very much sounds like if we were to classify additional species of humans (i.e., Homo Sapiens) because this one comes from Europe .. that one is short ... that one has blue eyes.
I agree with the premise later in the article about a new classification below species (sub-species) that might be more accurate... but not another species.

Wonderful! Even the Chiracahua Leopard frogs here in AZ are on the rebound (re: Wildlife Society). Was it so long ago that NatGeo and the usual suspects were hysterically claiming frogs worldwide were going extinct because of (fill in the blank)?
