I’m always surprised there are people who *want* socialized medicine. Germany has socialized medical care but people are allowed to purchase private health insurance. Let me explain how it works based on what I learned living there. (1) My landlady was sick for more than a year. The doctors paid by the government medical system couldn’t figure out why she wasn’t able to eat without being sick. After six visits, she was denied help. She found a private doctor who diagnosed her problem and cured her. (2) I broke my arm and was sent to the Bitburg Krankenhaus (hospital) to get it fixed. I had Tricare because my husband was active duty. When I woke up after surgery, I was in a large room with 9 other women. After breakfast, I was moved to a semi-private room because I had private insurance. After being moved, my blanket was switched from a striped blanket to a white one. When I was taken to the X-ray room, I was put in the front of the line because I had private health insurance. How did they know? The color of my blanket. (3) My German friend from my fitness center was hit by a car while he was riding his bicycle. I happened to drive by and stop, that’s how I knew it was him. When I went to visit him in the hospital, he was in a large room with 11 other men, one TV and no WiFi.
These are true stories and I wish Americans would wake up to reality.

You know the truth because you have lived through it in Germany.
Too many Americans have never lived outside of the United States
and know nothing of socialized medicine and the way it works.
Socialist and even Communist forms of governments are gaining
more popularity among some young Americans today who have
no experience of living in nations with those governments.

I always comment that the VA is government run healthcare and look at all the issues they have.

SSG Robert Pratt It's funny. I don't qualify for VA Healthcare as a stand alone. I make too much money. But if I lessened my income to qualify, they'll gladly serve me.
They've also told me, as I am covered by other insurance, they'd give me services working concert with the other coverage.
