The latest news is Congress has approved putting 20 of the A-10 Warthog close support Jets into storage at the Davis-Montham Air Force Base.
Congress has its priorities reversed and the Air Force fighter pilots who eventually become Generals don't like close air support Pilots.
Too bad we couldn't give them to Ukraine or give them to Taiwan because they will need them when Taiwan is invaded by China in the next 5 years.
The Our president spends too much money on climate change mitigation and giving out social welfare big government socialism to people no proof of work or income yet our defense budget suffers.
That is why the Air Force is putting the A-10 out to pasture to buy more or put more money in the F-35 junk Strike Fighter which will only have 200 rounds not 1200 rounds of 25 mm and not 30 mm gun and it doesn't have the dwell time, pilot protection, redundant hydraulic systems nor the Armament of an A-10 Warthog.
The A-10 Warthog can also carry multiple ordanance equivalent to the bomb load of a B-17 Flying Fortress in WW2.
With Senator John McCain passed on and Senator Martha McSally no longer in Congress, our misguided Congress again is cutting back as China arms up for the eventual invasion of Taiwan.

I so disagree with mothballing the A-10. I've seen it in action and I did my stint at McClellan's depot following the A-10...takes a licking and keeps on ticking! Seriously, it is an amazing plane.

Yes, and back in the Vietnam war they found the fast movers could NOT provide the close air support needed. They were to fast and also used so much fuel they could NOT loiter in the area. The WWII vintage, prop driven A1E "Sky Raider" had to be taken out of mothballs ands put back in service to fill that role. I saw first hand how effective the A1E was in that role. The A10 was designed for that very same purpose and has already proved over and over again it is 100% up to the job. It seems some people never learn an aircrafts design should depend on the intended use, NOT just how fast and impressive it is. For some missions the simple solution is the most effective one.

As a former TACP, and a former Intel troop, I couldn't agree more. This is a critically needed airframe. If the Air Force wants to maintain control of fixed wing platforms, they must keep this, or a more capable (highly unlikely) replacement in the active inventory. Otherwise, they should just turn it over to the Army and Marines and be done with it. Have the USAF pilots that fly it train theirs and give those that want to continue to fly it the option to transfer into the Army.
