APOD: 2022 October 21 - Andromeda in Southern Skies

Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the October 21st edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Andromeda in Southern Skies." How southern? New Zealand-southern. Established in 1965, the Mount John Observatory is 3,376 feet above sea level and sits atop Mount John at the northern end of the Mackenzie Basin in New Zealand's South Island. We see today a 30-second exposure focused on the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) as it rises above the Southern Alps (which extend the length of the western coast of the South Island). It's amazing what a dark sky can show you, isn't it?
