Feres helps military avoid accountability for harm. New ruling could be a chance for justice.

I have had to file suit against government agencies and as soon as I find out the actual people responsible won't be held accountable, I won't proceed because I don't believe taxpayers should be punished.

The Feres doctrine should die. The nurse in the story complained several times about her attacker. The leadership did nothing except treat her wounds. Such crap!

I know the story about the AAV, but I'm not sure about its maintenance history. If it shouldn't have been on or in the water, the Marine Corps should be held liable too.

I understand the need for the doctrine because accidents and malfunctions happen. But malfeasance is inexcuseable should not be an excuse to keep from making people or families whole.

I absolutely 100% agree with the need for Feres. It is vital to being able to do what we do. But....

It has been taken to illogical extents. As the article highlights, Feres has been far too widely applied and prevents government accountability, even for situations which are NOT part and parcel of military service - like routine (or even specialized) medical care in a stateside MTF, or sexual assault.

I agree with Justice Thomas. It is time we re-looked Feres.
