Sailor found not guilty of setting $1.2 billion boat on fire, report says it was due to poor...

If you know how to search prior posts ( I don't) you will see that, in response to the first posting about this tragedy, I went on one of my lengthy and detailed rants, over how this young sailor was being scapegoated. Never, in any of the articles I've seen, has any evidence been brought forth to implicate this kid. Was he a buttcrust? Sounds like. Was he a slacker with a smart mouth? Sounds like. It also sounds like a complete failure of leadership. No offense, but these issues are high on my irritation list. You are a succesful, inspiring teacher. I think we find common ground here. Why wasn't his CPO taking him in hand? Why wasn't his Division Officer snatching a knot in the CPO's grommet? Where was this much vaunted Master Chief of Command? ( at the risk of pissing off some of my Navy shipmates, I'll rant about that another time.) The ship's Damage Control Assistant? His Department head? The Chief Engineer? The XO? The CO? The Port Engineer? The yard Safety Officer? Hypothetically, even if this kid did lite the match, all of those folks allowed conditions to become irredeemably hazardous. Don't want to hear, "but yard period". Been though dozens. Yard periods are inherently dangerous. That's why we have O's and CPOs. Question is, after all this, can we save this sailor?

We seem to be focused on issues that have nothing to do with kicking a** and taking names. Accountability seems to have been watered down until unrecognizable. . Leadership seems to be a quaint concept from another time. What are they doing to my Navy.
