‘The worst command’: Inside the submarine Scranton’s dysfunction

The commanding officer of the fast-attack submarine Scranton was fired in July after a relentless string of “disproportionate, loud and often toxic outbursts” directed at his crew over everything from the thickness of meat served in the galley and the stowing of coffee creamer to minor sailor missteps.
The caustic atmosphere aboard the boat during Cmdr. Seth Rumler’s eight months in command, which ended with his firing in July, demoralized the crew in a variety of ways.

Some leaders think that because of their rank and or title that they are bulletproof. They often fail to realize that everyone has a boss that monitors their ability to lead and conduct and or behavior.

I started reading this and I thought that one of my old Company Commanders had joined the Navy. Besides flaming me (and the other Officers) at every chance and giving me my only bad OER, he managed to piss off every NCO in the Company, including the First Sergeant. The Company NCO's were not as tolerant as the Enlisted on the Sub, about half requested an Open Door with the SGM. The CO didn't last long after that took place.

It sounds like he needed to observe a torpedo launch, from inside one of the torpedo tubes.
