Red Cross and Red Crescent Respond to Historic Flooding in Pakistan

More than 1,000 people are dead as ravaging floods have displaced more than 3.1 million people and damaged more than half a million homes in districts across Pakistan. The earthquake-like destruction has destroyed thousands of roads and bridges and caused the loss of over 710,000 livestock. Millions are in danger as rescuers attempt to reach the stranded.
In response to this devastating humanitarian crisis, the Pakistan Red Crescent has deployed more than 500 staff and volunteers and is currently providing relief assistance in 23 of the most affected districts. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), partner National Societies are mobilizing to support relief and recovery activities.

Very true Lt Col Charlie Brown Ma'am; two years ago, in India, in the mountains from where the rivers flow, cloud bursts wrecked havoc across the Char Dham region from Himachal to Uttrakhand in the Himalayan foothills. Last year, India experienced glacial meltdowns and to add to all this, in 2022, there was the glacial pool erosions and the bursting of glaciers. This all happened upstream in the highlands which produced floods downstream in the plains. The Indus River originates in Tibet and winds through Ladakh into Kashmir and down through Himachal into Punjab and further into Pakistan. Sindh Province in Pakistan is the lowest point along the course of the Indus River, where the flooding is worst.
