Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the August 26th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Little Planet South Pole." We last saw an example of stereographic projection in the August 17th APOD; here is another. Last week, the camera was looking up...this week, it is looking down. My graduate advisor was once the station chief at Admundsen, and was also an amateur photographer himself. He bought back pictures of ice caves, grease ice, the station, but nothing like this. I think he would like it. And the aurora gives it a nice finish.
