The specs alone tell me that I would stick with the 308 Winchester, SGT (Join to see) !

I know a guy who swears until the cows come home that .300 Blackout can penetrate completely through the ballistic glass on an Armored Hummer. I called BS I am not sure how basically shoving a bigger bullet into a 5.56 casing is going to do that. But I cannot find anyone who knows enough about the round or has done any deep testing. I anyone knows a site or just knows proving me wrong or right let me know please. If the blackout round was that good, you would think the Army would have gone to the instead of 6.8

If you are looking for and upgrade of impact damage from the 5.56 AR15 round while using the same platform then the 6.5 Grendel is a contender. Something to be aware of is the 6.5 Grendel Round can only carry 75 rounds per pound as opposed to 125 rounds per pound of the .223 Remington. This is a substantial reduction in your basic load numbers. The 6.5 Grendel will out shoot the 223/556 at extended ranges. However in CQC the disadvantage of being down to 3/5 of your normal 556 ammo carry could be significant. Likewise the 2/5s increase in ammo weight would make a weight-determination caution + the number of required extra magazines needed to for the Grendel are a factor to be considered along with recoil.
.
As for the 6.5 Grendel vs the .308: The base factor of range and lethality are factors but at 1,000 yard shootout shows 308 bullet experienced -407” bullet drop compared to -414” for the 6.5 Grendel. Technically the 308 has the flatter trajectory, but this difference is minor. Other considerations for the 6.5 Grendel (75 rounds) vs 308 (40) rounds for the same weight of 1 pound. Plus on average, the 308 Winchester will have around 20 ft-lbs of free recoil compared to 9 foot-pounds for the 6.5 Grendel.
Its your choice - mine was made (if I bought another rifle) on the 6.5 Grendel based on its increase in rounds to be carried. However since I currently have a M21 Sniper Rifle chambered for 308/7.63, I'll stick with it in the meantime.
