I realize this is Russia and we're all not exactly applauding them in any way, shape, or fashion. But like in many countries outside the US, certain types of drugs are illegal. The fact is, she broke their laws and while this is very likely Russia taking advantage of a situation, no one can really deny this fact. 1. stay away from illegal drug in general, and 2. Learn and know all the potentially applicable laws in a country you visit often, like she has. This is a sucky situation for her and I hope the Russian Court gives her a break and allows her to go home. But I do not think this warrants US negotiations to swap out high profile prisoners. She was not there at the government's behest, and so while they should do what they can to ensure she is treated humanely and even work to pressure Russia to release her; there really isn't much else we can or should do. Don't do or transport illegal drug folks! I don't care if anyone thinks what she had was a minor drug, that's not the point.

This young lady had clearly been living in to small of a bubble for too long and had no clue about the world. No one outside of the US cares she is black, that she is a basket ball player, or gay. In fact, Russia is very anti-gay. She is a poster gal of what we are teaching how being different makes you better than others and there are sub-groups in our country very responsible for what she is going through.
