Good evening, Rallypoint, and welcome to the July 2nd edition of Astronomy PIcture of the Day (APOD): "Solargraphic Analemmas." Solargraphy is a photographic method for recording the paths of the Sun. Solarigraphics or solargraphs are pinhole photographs taken with a lensless pinhole camera that exposes photographic media for long periods. How long? Well, the case of today's APOD, a full year.
We see the results of a year-long solargraphic study outside the village of Proboszczow, Poland, from June 26, 2021 to June 26, 2022. The three central analemmas were produced by single exposures at 11:00 AM, 12:00PM, and 1:00PM local time. The images on either side of the analemmas were produced by 15 minute exposures during the day. What caused some areas to be dark? Clouds (it was cloudy during the exposure time). I see why those who are involved with solargraphy call it an art form.
