The best way to maintain good relationships with (extended), family members is to have a short memory! Close family relationships dictate other remedies.

Based on my own clinical research published on Research Gate, maintaining a viable long-term committed relationship takes plenty of energy. In the US 45% marriages end in divorce as per CDC.
