New York courts just did the same thing to a map that was passed in that state by democrats. Hopefully judges across the country will start cracking down on gerrymandering. Make candidates start earning votes and not just pander to the base with the same tired crap.

But David it's only gerrymandering if the OTHER GUY IS DOING IT. RIGHT?

SGT James Murphy - Not at all, both the democratic map in NY and the republican's map in FL were tossed out which I think is a good thing.

Gerrymandering has me VERY conflicted.

I absolutely positively hate it. Abhor. Revile. So much so, that I want the federal government to outlaw it.

But....

I absolutely completely support states' rights. And I think a federal ban on gerrymandering - as warranted as it may be - would be an overreach.

So, I want the federal government to ban gerrymandering, but I don't want them to have (or take) that level of authority. Conflict.

So I should fight for my own state to get rid of gerrymandering. I am on neither the red or blue team. More like yellow. I refuse to pick sides. I pick the candidate with whom I agree most. Often it is a 3rd party. When it is not, however, I vote R about twice as often as D. And I am in a red state. So if I fight for my state to ban the gerrymander, but other states don't, now I am diluting the pool of folks who are more representative of my views, while other states are strengthening their pools. So while fighting gerrymandering in my state INCREASES the state's alignment with my views, it is likely to DECREASE the national alignment with my views. Conflict.

Why can't we ALL just f'n agree to play fair, dammit?

(I know, I know... All's fair in love, war, and politics.)
