APOD: 2022 May 10 - NGC 6334: The Cats Paw Nebula

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the May 10th Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "NGC 6334: The Cat's Paw Nebula." Also known as the Bear Claw Nebula and Gum 64, the Cat's Paw is an emission nebula located 5,500 light years from Earth and found just to the right of the stinger in the constellation Scorpius. Astronomer John Herschel first noted it in 1837. We see a colorized image here highlighting the presence of hydrogen (red), oxygen (blue), and sulfur (yellow). Stellar nurseries have also been identified from infrared and radio emissions.
