The problem isn't the Army, it's the idiots in charge (civilians)

True up to a point. MAJ Hugh Blanchard offers the answer to the other side of the equation in his comment.

I would extend the ranks of the idiots in charge to at least half of the folks wearing stars. And almost all of the folks wearing four of them.

It's hard to say, "No Sir, we can't do that!" We've all been raised to say, "Roger, WILCO!", especially for somebody like CENTCOM. But the Army and Navy both need to sometimes say, "No, we can't do that." Some shortage specialty units, e.g., Graves Registration, are constantly tasked from mission to mission, and soldiers at all ranks eventually burn out. Perhaps even worse in the Navy, with deployed sailors pulling 14 hour shifts and turning to when there's a drill. Lots of our vessels are in need of serious maintenance that has been delayed due to constant deployments. Eventually it adds up and sometimes there are accidents with tired service members and tired systems. We need to obey our own standards about crew rest, maintenance and family time.

Training rotations are being treated the same as war time deployments. Both are important but war time deployments are that much more.

MSG Roy Cheever - God bless you, Top, but I'm getting a little worn around the edges to start a fresh revolution.
