Good Red Friday afternoon, Rallypoint, and welcome to the April 1st Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Leaning Tower, Active Sun." This March 27th sunset view from Italy (Pisa) frames the Sun with the town Duomo and famous Leaning Tower. Can you pick out the sunspot on the surface of the Sun? This region unleashed a frenzy of solar flares and two coronal mass ejections (CME) just this past week. The largest CME impacted triggered a geomagnetic storm, a temporary radio blackout in some areas, and aurorae in high-latitude night skies. No April Fools here.
