Same goes for practicing with the ammo you carry. Practicing with lead ammo is great, but if you carry a higher grade ammo regularly, you need to know how different it's going to feel when you pull that trigger. Practice with .38 and carry .357? Big difference.

Context, brother. Of course you're right in the distance scenario but if you'll notice the conditions I described (and the fact that I load my own to closely match ballistically) then I assure you that being 74 (in 6 days), I know the "inside baseball" factor and have over five decades of sending lead downrange. Give us both an A+.

If it weren't for going to the range and firing; I probably would be quite guilty of not checking my service rounds. I empty them and refill my mags with "range ammo" which is the same load except for the slight difference in bullet type and weight. Any rounds fired as a security team member would normally be within the confines of our church, not at distances that would be significantly impacted by the bullet weight.

When I say "same load", that isn't completely accurate as the amount of powder to drive the "tactical" bullets would vary somewhat from the amount used to drive flat nosed or semi-wadcutter "range bullets". The ballistics would be very close as far as f.p.s., etc.
