Problem in California is there really behind on getting the license tests out of the way. Many states need to streamline and fast-track or put extra emphasis on getting the test done in a timely matter otherwise young people like him will not want to join this trade. My wife is a professional truck driver in Canada. She put the standard in professional Advanced courses. She hasn't driven professionally since 2004 but there was a lot of racial discrimination against indigenous people especially female driving. She was the swamper or co-driver working in the oil fields in Northern Alberta and the white guy who was driving did not have the class a license. Again, discrimination in the trucking industry in a male-dominated domain.
She still has her license now. She's only 46 so she could still go back into the industry and help out driving locally.

Kind of like having medical personnel work the height of the pandemic, a large portion getting Covid themselves and then getting fired because they don't want the vaccine. Now with the loss of these personnel, they are having to get active duty and NG troops to help man hospitals. Makes about as much sense as stopping the truckers.
