I agree ..soldiers are never appreciated until they're need to fight for their country...then forgotten again...case in point lack of VA funding.

What an excellent rendition. Though I have read and recited 'Tommy' many times, hearing it aloud is special.

It wasn't until many years later when I gained an appreciation of literature, that I realized that the first line of the final stanza was one of three things a robot replacement of Dudley Do-Right would say in response to a question.
Eventually, Snidely Whiplash was foiled again.

Soldiers are wanted and appreciated when they are needed, and sadly forgotten and neglected when they are not.
This piece of historical truth has repeated itself over and over in our history, as well as that of most major civilizations.
