Australia has defended its decision to scrap a defence deal with France in favour of a new pact with the United States and Britain. Barnaby Joyce, the country's deputy prime minister, says the decision to switch to nuclear-powered submarines from the US was a response to the changing strategic situation in the region.

I don't really care who pays for them, I just don't think having them sitting around the coast of Australia is going to sit well with 50 other countries that want nuclear weapons. The last thing the world needs is to restart the nuclear arms race.
