PO1 William "Chip" Nagel That kid has spirit. How easy it would be to just quit but he kept going. He has what it takes to become a United States Marine!
I want to be the oldest person to hike the trail. The current record is 82 (for a through hike). Hiking the Appalachian Trail is one of two things left on my bucket list of life. I told my wife and children if and when I start the hike at Springer Mountain, Georgia I am either going to finish or die on the trail. Hmmm...I had a similar thought process when I went to Marine Corps Boot Camp.

Cpl Vic Burk
SGT Charlie Lee - Yes, as a matter of fact just today my third block class had a board bonus question the could complete for extra credit on their test.
It read:
The Appalachian Trail is 2182 stretching from Georgia to Maine. If Mr. Burk's average step length is 30 inches how many step will it take him to complete the trip if he stays totally on the trail? (Round your answer to the nearest whole number)
Only about half the class attempted the problem and all but two got it correct.

Cpl Vic Burk - I Don't Know, I do Know the Mountain is a Car Killer, VW Engine Melter. Reddish Knob of Shenandoah Mountain is one of the highest points in Virginia, rising 4,397 feet. A narrow, paved road reaches the summit from Harrisonburg, Virginia.

I was born in Appalachia, but the trail doesn't even touch Eastern Kentucky.
