He and LTG Hal Moore wrote the best book ever written on the Vietnam War. The movie was outstanding as well. RIP, brother.

Corresponded with Joe Galloway over the years and he and Hal Moore were extremely helpful when I was writing a story about two local soldiers who were killed at LZ Albany. My copy of "We were Soldiers Once..." is inscribed by both of them. It is one of my treasured books. RIP Joe.

I met Joe at a 1st Cavalry Division Association reunion a few years back. An unassuming man, he had witnessed one of the fiercest battles of the Vietnam war. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star with a V device for actions during the battle. He will be missed but we will meet again at Fiddler's Green!
