I agree with much of that except that it's the Democrats who have resorted to violence and manipulation of the system

I read this twice and saw nothing about socialism. Nada.
One line I do agree with: "Something, in other words, appears to be unique about the binary condition, or in this case, the two-party system, that triggers the kind of good-vs-evil, dark-vs-light, us-against-them thinking that is particularly pronounced in the U.S."
So true.

But I thank SGT Rick Whitmire for p0sting this. The article makes a lot of sense.
Many of our founders, including Washington and Jefferson, warned about political parties. They may have been correct.

They were also very concerned about the possibility of a dictator or tyrant taking control. So, to take that a step further, Dictator Bad, honestly elected president - good. I absolutely know what happened the 6th of January. We all do, but some try to deny it.

Once upon a time, the two parties coexisted more or less peacefully, respectfully. Sure, there were places where party machines set people against one another (largely based on race, religion, or nationality) to maintain their hold over "their kind". But, both parties shared a common interest and differed mostly of means to the same end. Sadly, that time has passed and parties that don't share the same interests will view one another as evil.

CPT Jack Durish - Along those lines, I must relate a bit of family history.
My dad, a strong Democrat and an Uncle, a strong Republican would, often when they got together, sit down over a beer and argue politics. The discussion would get pretty heated.
However, once the discussion was closed, they were best of friends, and remained so their entire lives.
My father explained: That was just politics. We are family.

I wish this "family," the United States, could understand that.

I'm not sure that a Two-Party system is detrimental to a free republic, but these two parties sure as hell are. Yes, the GOP talks a good game, but never deliver, and what the Democrats deliver is garbage
